###News Crawler – personal side project #####2015

  • Inspired by my daily technical blogs reading. Develop a program that grab news from my interest websites, open sourced on my GitHub.
  • To Do in future: Improve the scalability and implement it on bigger cluster. Make it more generic so it can grab more news from various sources, and integrate with Storm and HDFS if needed.

  • Our team got The Third in this competition
  • The Hackathon is designed for intermediate to advanced Vertica users looking to have a fun day working on some really cool stuff. The project is sort of Data Mining. Our team of 4 were from different companies and never met before, and then spent the entire day working on the Hackathon challenge.
  • Utilized R, Tableau and Vertica Database to analyse and visualize the data, dig useful information among a big data set.
